Assetto Corsa EVO Launches Into Early Access
Sim racers and fans of racing games no longer have to wait as the highly anticipated multiplatform driving simulator from Kunos Simulazioni has finally launched into Early Access. Assetto Corsa EVO attempts to further refine the physics and realism the series has been known for while doubling down on what has made their community special with the aim of covering a wide range of driving disciplines.
To accompany the Early Access launch of the game Kunos have released an Early Access Launch trailer showcasing what’s in store for players who decide to adopt the game early.
This initial launch of Assetto Corsa EVO comes with an initial offering of 5 tracks and 20 cars for players to choose from in singleplayer game modes. The current tracks available in v0.1 are as follows:
- Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari – Imola
- Brands Hatch
- Laguna Seca
- Mount Panorama (Bathurst)
- Suzuka
The current car offerings include options from the following manufacturers:
- Abarth
- Alfa Romeo
- Alpine
- Audi
- BMW
- Chevrolet
- Ford
- Ferrari
- Honda
- Hyundai
- Lamborghini
- Lancia
- Lotus
- Mazda
- McLaren
- Mercedes-Benz
- Morgan
- Rover
- Porsche
- Toyota
- Volkswagen
While there is only singleplayer modes currently, Kunos has already released a roadmap giving players a glimpse into when they can expect more content and features like multiplayer. Currently the plan appears to be to release multiplayer as part of their third major update.
For those who decide to adopt the game early, they can currently test the available cars and tracks in practice modes or against the AI in singleplayer races. Currently we have found that the AI are quite basic and appear to drive without any awareness of you and sometimes behaving strangely in corners.
This often results in AI that tries to drive straight through you or make contact while racing. We are expecting this to improve as time goes on but it is worth noting at this point in time.
Another noteworthy feature is the inclusion of VR and triple screen support day one. In our experience, playing on screens performance has been quite good however VR support is suffering from optimization issues currently leaving performance somewhat playable but not ideal for a comfortable experience. As development continues and optimization is improved we hope to see great gains in this area.
While the launch so far is rather barebones and there are some issues, the overall physics and graphical improvements are a big step forward and we look forward to seeing the improvements Kunos makes this year and beyond.
If you are looking to jump into Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access you can head on over to their Steam page to pick up a copy of the game today.
